The Bible is a remarkable collection of books. The Word of God is a bit like a diamond. When looking at one facet all the other facets are seen reflected in it. It is a wonderful book. It appears to me that the more I have learned about the scriptures the more I realise I do not know! God's word is boundless!!
Yet sadly, Jesus warned that there would be those who would neglect to read and more importantly remember and practice what they know. That parable we know so well of the wise and foolish virgins reminds us of the great need to be filled with the oil of the word.
The Word of Yahweh should be our greatest treasure; it is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. But equally important is for us to rightly divide the word of Truth and act upon it. Paul wrote to Timothy:
“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”. 2Tim 2:15
Dividing means: to proceed on straight paths, hold a straight course, to handle aright, to teach the truth directly and correctly.
Can we honestly say that is what we are doing day by day?
Sterile knowledge is of no use whatsoever, for Jesus said:
“If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love” …. “You are my friends IF you do whatever I command you.” John 15:10 & 14
