My Family Relationships
“But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.” 1Cor 11:3
What does this mean in practical terms?
I am at liberty to marry whomever I choose but it must be a sister in the Lord | 1Cor 7:39 |
Just as Jesus loves and cares for his ‘bride’ the church so I will as a husband love and cherish my wife, because we are partners together in Christ | Eph 5:25-26; Col 3:19; 1Pet 3:7 |
As a wife I must love and cherish my husband, submitting to him as representing Christ who is the head of the Church | Eph 5:23-24; Col 3:18; 1Pet 3:1 |
I must not seek a divorce because this is against the commandments of Christ | Matt 19:3-6, 9; Mark 10:2-12 |
I must be careful of what relationships I have with those of the opposite gender and beware I am not tempted to commit adultery because I know that adultery will exclude me from the Kingdom of God | 1Cor 6:9 |
I know that husbands and wives should remain together, but if parting for any reason must seek to be reconciled | 1Cor 7:10-11 |
If I have come to believe the gospel message, but my husband/wife is still an unbeliever I must remain with them. Who knows if by my example I may lead them to Christ? | 1Cor 7:12-16 |
I must bring up my children according to the scriptures teaching them discipline and respect. It is important that I teach them about the Word and ways of God | Eph 6:4; Col 3:18; 1Pet 3:1 |
As a child it is my duty to obey my parents in all things and respect them | Eph 6:1; Col 3:20 |
