My Character and Behaviour

"As He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy." 1Peter 1:15-16

What does this mean in practical terms?

I truly believe that the Kingdom of God is coming soon so my life must show I really do believe this and each day could be my last

Matt 10:37-39; Luke 12:35-37; 2Peter 3:13-14

It is important that I try to set an example to others by being vigilant in watching my own character lest I fall, being sincere, honest, showing integrity and reverence in my manner of life

Phil 4:5; Tit 2:2,7; 1Pet 1:13; 1Peter 5:8

In all the varied things that fill my life, whatever it is, all must be done to the glory of God

1Cor 10:31; Col 3:17

I must not work with the goal of becoming rich, but try to be content with what I have, because present riches will pass away, I must labour to gain true riches from the Word for as Jesus taught where my treasure is there will my heart be also

Matt 6:19-21; John 6:27; 1Tim 6:8

To have possessions is not wrong, but riches are dangerous able to turn my heart away from God, therefore I must use all that I have wisely and generously in the service of the Lord whom I serve

Luke 12:18-21; 1Tim 6:10,17-19; 1Pet 4:10

My life must be lived in such a way that shows that faith is active and that my life is dedicated to God, because without holiness nobody will see the Lord

Hebrews 12:14

I must constantly strive to overcome the ‘lusts of the flesh’

2Tim 2:22; 1John 2:15-16

I must also avoid all that is evil and rather cling to what is good

Rom 12:9; 1Thess 5:22

In order to embrace what is good I must seek out and look at those things that are true, honest, pure and virtuous, particularly the greatest example of all that is perfect - the Lord Jesus Christ

Phil 4:8-9

I must try to be ‘Christ like’ in my behaviour, being gentle, meek, kind-hearted, compassionate merciful, forgiving, and patient

Phil 2:5&8; Eph 4:32; Col 3:12-14; 2Tim 2:24-25

I must strive to be humble in my attitude before God for there is no room for ‘self’ before Him

Isaiah 66:2

I must try to be willing and enthusiastic in all that I undertake, doing everything as if part of my service to God

Col 3:23-24

I must learn to be patient, keep my temper and not give way to anger

James 1:3-4 & 19-20; Prov 30:33

My speech must be pure, swearing, lying and gossiping are wrong and to be avoided at all costs

Acts 5:1-5; Col 3:8-9; James 5:12; 1Tim 5:13

I must avoid whatever may provoke or lead me to commit sin, be it a person, book, magazine, film, place or topic of conversation

Prov 4:14; Prov 20:19; Matt 5:29-30; Matt 6:22; Rom 1:28-32; 1Cor 6:14; Eph 5:3-4&1
