My Private Service and Devotion to God
“Let my prayer be set before You as incense, The lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.” Psa 141:2
What does this mean in practical terms?
It is important for me to remember that prayer is a privilege; it is a source of comfort and joy yet also something that brings responsibilities. I must therefore think carefully about what I say. | Eccles 5:1-2 |
I must pray in private on a regular basis (for what child does not want to talk to its Father) with brevity and simplicity. | Matt 6:6-7; Rom 12:12; Eph 6:18; 1Thess 5:17; Heb 4:16 |
I am grateful to God for His love and mercy and so in my prayers will offer thanksgiving to Him. | Eph 5:20; Col 4:2; Phil 4:6; Heb 13:15 |
I know that by myself it impossible to overcome sin, therefore I will pray for strength to resist temptation. | Mark 14:38 |
There is only one Gospel and one hope of salvation I will thus pray for the gospel to be preached that more people may give glory to God. | Matt 9:38 |
In my prayers I will remember others and pray for my brethren and sisters. | James 5:16; 1John 5:16. |
I must even pray for my enemies. | Matt 5:44 |
I know that God does listen to prayer and will answer my prayers in His own good time. | Psa 6:9; Psa 26:6; Pas 65:2; Matt 21:22 |
Whenever I am happy, sad, in need of forgiveness and whatever the circumstances of my life, my first thought will be to turn to God in prayer. | Isa 55:6-7; Jas 5:13, |
One form of prayer is the singing of praise in the form of psalms and other hymns to God, therefore I will sing and make music in my heart to God. | Eph 5:20 |
